Weight was one of the conflicts. So was her relationship with herself, and the perception of her body that others forced on her. Some of the conflict arises from the trip to Italy, and leaving Italy too. But yeah, Body Image was probably one of the biggest. Hope that helps!

When I was about 8 or so, I got a haircut which had a short fringe which Mum and the hairdresser/neighbour liked to spike up. I thought it was cool, the adults thought it was cool... the other kids did not. They said it looked horrible, looked like an afro, said it made me look ugly. They called me "Afrine" for ages, and even lied to the new student teacher that it was my name. He was so embarrassed/annoyed when he realised what had happened.

My hairdresses has said that I don't have hair, I have a mane - like a horse. But some things people say can make you laugh. It depends on the person. I asked my friend who was straightening my hair if she was going to use heat defence products on my hair and she replied, "Your hair has a defence of its own." I cracked up. It depends on the person and how they word it.

I used to hate my hair because it's curly, frizzy and big. People are so used to the long, silky, straight commercial look that I always got comments like, "Why didn't you comb today?" or "Don't you wish you had straight hair?" or "Why is your hair like that?" Had a few self-esteem issues to clear up, but I'm rocking my natural curls just fine now :)

Thanks for the contest, it looks like a great book!

This one isn't really to bad, but it did hurt my feelings. I was at a 4-H Ambassador sleepover and was awake until 3 in the morning before I finally got to sleep. Then, I woke up at 7:00 A.M. and left at around 8:00. My Mom had a knitting machine that a lady came over to look at. I threw my hair into a ponytail and went downstairs. My Mom was telling her about were I was last night, and how late I stayed up, and she said something like "I can tell, look at your hair!" It wasn't even bad!

Oh man, that's a horrible lady! I don't think anything that bad has happened to me. I always THINK that more people would comment on my acne, but I guess it's a case of it being more serious to the person who has it. The worst has probably just been middle school kids (those who know what acne is) being bratty and saying, "Why is your face all spotted?" sigh. I'll get over it.
